Bihar Land Calculator - Dhur, Kattha and Bigha Conversion
The Bihar land calculator on this page is built for Bihar's district-specific measurement system. Bihar uses three primary local units - Dhur, Kattha and Bigha - which are tied to the Laggi-Haath value of each district. Unlike a generic converter, this calculator requires you to select your district first, which automatically sets the correct Haath value and gives you accurate results for your specific location.
The calculation is based on this formula: 1 Dhur equals (Laggi-Haath x 1.5) squared in square feet. From Dhur, everything else follows - 20 Dhur makes 1 Kattha, and 20 Kattha makes 1 Bigha (400 Dhur total per Bigha). The Dhurki is 1/20 of a Dhur. These ratios stay the same across all Bihar districts - only the square foot value changes with the Haath.
Laggi-Haath Values Across Bihar's 38 Districts
Bihar's 38 districts are grouped into three Haath categories for land measurement. Districts in the Patna and Shahabad region - Patna, Bhojpur, Buxar, Rohtas and Kaimur - use 5.75 Haath, which gives a Dhur of 74.39 sq ft and a Bigha of 29,756 sq ft. Central and Mithila region districts including Gaya, Muzaffarpur, Darbhanga, Vaishali, Nalanda, Bhagalpur, Munger, Jehanabad, Nawada, Aurangabad, Arwal and Begusarai use 5.5 Haath, giving a Dhur of 68.06 sq ft and a Bigha of 27,224 sq ft.
The remaining 23 districts - including Gopalganj, Siwan, Samastipur, Madhepura, Madhubani, Sitamarhi, Supaul, Purnia, Katihar, Saharsa, Kishanganj, Araria, Khagaria, Banka, Jamui, Sheikhpura, Sheohar, Lakhisarai, East Champaran, West Champaran and Saran - use 5.0 Haath, giving a Dhur of 56.25 sq ft and a Bigha of 22,500 sq ft.
Common Bihar Land Conversions
Decimal and Acre are national standard units that remain constant regardless of district. One Decimal equals 435.6 sq ft and 100 Decimal equals 1 Acre (43,560 sq ft). In Patna district at 5.75 Haath, 1 Bigha equals 29,756 sq ft or approximately 68.27 Decimal or 0.683 Acre. In Gaya or Muzaffarpur at 5.5 Haath, 1 Bigha equals 27,224 sq ft or 62.5 Decimal or 0.625 Acre. In Gopalganj or Siwan at 5.0 Haath, 1 Bigha equals 22,500 sq ft or 51.65 Decimal or 0.517 Acre.
These differences matter significantly in property registration, inheritance division and revenue court proceedings. Always verify the Haath value for your district before using any land measurement in a legal document.
Land Unit Calculators for All 28 Indian States
India has no single national land unit standard outside the metric system. Every state has its own traditional units codified in state revenue laws, and the same unit name can mean entirely different areas in different states. The Marla in Punjab (272.25 sq ft) is not the same as usage in Haryana. The Cent in Tamil Nadu (435.6 sq ft) is different from the Guntha in Maharashtra (1,089 sq ft). Assam's Bigha (14,400 sq ft) is the same as West Bengal's, but different from UP's Pucca Bigha (27,225 sq ft).
Jamin Calculator provides dedicated state-calibrated calculators for every Indian state. Each state page lists only the units actually used in that state's official land records - Revenue Khatauni, Jamabandi, sale deeds and mutation orders. Select any state from the grid above to open its calculator. All tools are free, work instantly in your browser and require no registration.
